Hyderabad: In a first of its kind initiative Telangana state government to rope in the intelligence department to assess the conduct and candidature of the candidates who applied for vice chancellor posts at government universities in the state.

State government had decided to fill five vacant vice-chancellor posts and also search VCs for other 8 universities in the state. A notification was issued inviting applications from interested eligible professors.

The notification received a huge response and around 208 applications were received for the VC of Ambedkar university. A total of 193 applications were received for Osmania university.

Search committees should take responsibility for appointing the VCs. The state government had already constituted the search committees as per the guidelines. Meanwhile, the government called intelligence authorities to submit detailed reports of each and every candidate.

Intelligence wing of state police is going to the homes of each and every candidate and conducting background verification. Details like income, assets, relationship with politicians and others were investigated.
