The India hockey team took on Japan today in Dhaka in the Asia Cup 2017. India had a massive victory, beating Japan 5-1 in a match that was aimed at India retaining its number one status in Asian hockey.

India and Japan got onto the field at around 2:40 P.M., within the first few minutes India’s fierce attack led to S.V. Sunil scoring the first goal. After a good lead, Japan hit back harder and Kenji Kitazato swung his bat and the ball went right past the Indian goalkeeper making the score even.

By the second quarter India and Japan struggled to score and then Lalit Kumar at an almost 300 degree angle manages to score, putting India in the lead yet again.

This was only the beginning of India’s victory as  Ramandeep Singh bagged the third goal in the third quarter.

Harmanpreet Singh managed to score the fourth goal making it his first Penalty Corner goal of the match.

By the end of the fourth quarter, India had a comfortable 4-1 lead with Japan struggling to fight back.

Harmanpreet Singh ended the game with his second goal, bringing India to an unbeatable 5-1 score.

India will be taking on Bangladesh on the 13th of October and then Pakistan on the 15th.
