26 year old Suraj Prakash Sharma from Chandra Vihar in West Delhi stepped outside with his brother late evening on Tuesday. According to reports, there was a loud cracking sound and Suraj collapsed.

The furniture maker was bleeding from the back of his skull. His brother rushed him to a nearby hospital where his wound was cleaned and dressed. He was asked to come in first thing in the morning for an X-Ray.

Suraj complained of a terrible headache throughout the night. Once the X-Ray was taken it showed something at the base of his skull. The doctors recommended Suraj to be taken to a better hospital.

Neeraj, Suraj’s Brother explained, “They asked us to go to a bigger hospital and we went to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital.”

The reason behind Suraj’s headaches was determined after a CAT scan revealed the object at the base of his skull was a bullet.

Dr. Subodh Kumar Gupta, head of Neurosurgery at DDU said, “The man is lucky.” The doctor conducted a four hour long surgery to remove the bullet.

Dr. Subodh Kumar added, “The bullet entered through the lower rear side of his skull, changed trajectory after hitting the bone and went down. It passed through critical areas that maintain blood pressure and respiratory functions, and got stuck right on the surface of the C2 vertebra.”

The C2 vertebra is the vertebrae that attach the backbone to the skull.

The impact was with such a force that it flattened the 1.5 cm bullet.

The doctors working with Suraj have reported that he is responding positively to the medication. But they also added that his progress will only be determined once he gains consciousness.

At the Nihal Vihar police station, a case has been registered and the police are investigating.
