Amit Masurkar’s Newton has officially been announced as a nominee for the 2018 Oscars. The film was released on Friday under the production banner of Eros International Media Ltd., and produced by Drishyam Films.

This is a movie with a lot of tough questions and very few answers that circle around Nutan Kumar who decided to change the ‘Nu’ to ‘Ne’ and the ‘tan’ to ‘ton’ naming himself Newton.

Newton is a government clerk with staunch principles who refuses to go against what’s right. The 106 minute long film shows the challenges of elections in the Naxal areas of Chhattisgarh.

A real life scenario with a fictitious character that tries desperately to stop corruption during elections. The Naxals are a group of anti government members who exercise violent measures to disrupt the government. There has been an actual instance where a district collector was abducted by the Naxals in broad daylight.

The film concentrates on the little problems in our society that cause bigger consequences. Newton has received worldwide appreciation and it shows with it being the only Indian film this year to be part of the 90th Academic Awards.
