An actress, writer, humorist– Hollywood’s daughter and the Royalty of “Star Wars,” Carrie Fisher died on Tuesday morning at the age of 60. Carrie Fisher shot to fame with her iconic role as Princess Leia in “Star Wars.”

Fisher breathed her last on Tuesday morning after suffering a massive heart attack on Friday. She was on a flight from London to Los Angeles when she suffered the attack. Carrie was in London shooting episodes of the Amazon/Channel 4 comedy ”Catastrophe.” She was rushed to UCLA Medical Center directly from the Los Angeles International Airport after the plane landed around noon.

Carrie Fisher was survived by her daughter Billie Lourd, who confirmed the death. A statement by the hospital read, “It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 A.M., this morning. She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly.”

Carrie, daughter of Debbie Reynolds and singer Eddie Fisher, saw her parents separate at the young age of 2. The separation was a result of her father’s affair with Elizabeth Taylor. Carrie often mentioned that she was born as the daughter of the spotlight into Hollywood. She picked up drinking after the highs and lows of her career and her mother’s struggles in the 1950’s weighed down heavily on her.

Carrie in a 2006 interview with New York Times said, “I grew up on the back side of show business. So I had no desire to go into it. It had beat up my mother.” She also said, “I had a front and center view of how that hurt her. I understood that when they were done with you, they were done.”

Apart from being a noted actress Fisher also showed off her writing skills in 1987 with the book ”Postcards from the edge,” which describes an actress struggles to rebuild her career after an overdose. The book has been adopted into a movie and starred Meryl Streep and Shirley MacLaine in the lead and Carrie worked on the screenplay.

Her next book came in 2008, ”Wishful Drinking,” which she described as her autobiography. She also wrote ‘The Princess Diarist’, in which she reminisced her years as Princess Leia in the much acclaimed ”Star Wars.” She has been often outspoken about her relationship to drugs and alcohol and mental issues which earned her Lifetime Achievement award from Harvard College in 2016 for Cultural Humanitarianism.

After the ‘Star Wars’ success, Carrie had a steady career in Hollywood and was a most revered script doctor. Her performance in 1989 rom-com ”When Harry Met Sally” was an acclaimed standout performance. Her personal life was always filled with highs and lows. She dated Paul Simon for six years and married him in 1983, which lasted only a year. Fisher had a daughter in 1992, with Billy Lourd. Her relationship with Billy ended in 1994, and despite not being married to him, Carrie referred to him as her second husband. In her autobiography, she described her emotional state when Billy Lourd left her for a man. Apart from her daughter Carrie Fisher has always been close to her brother Todd.
