On the 2nd of December, a special Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) court granted bail to Showik Chakraborty, brother of Bollywood actress Rhea Chakraborty.
Showik Chakraborty was under police custody since the 4th of September.
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) registered a drugs related case against Showik Chakraborty. The NDPS Court granted him bail in a drug case related to Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
The actor was found dead on the 14th of June 2020, at his Bandra residence. The case was registered by the Mumbai Police, but later handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI.)
Due to the drugs and money involvement, the NCB and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) also started investigations respectively.
The main suspects in the money laundering and drugs angle were actress Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik Chakraborty.
While Ms. Chakrabortywas granted bail earlier on the 7th of October, Mr. Showik Chakrabortywas remanded and was given bail permission on the 2nd of December.
The orders of Showik Chakraborty’s bail came a month after his third appeal. On the 7th of November, Showik Chakraborty appealed for bail in a special NDPS court.
Both Showik and Rhea were arrested by the NCB in a drug probe related to Sushant Singh Rajput’s death on the 4th of September.
Though Rhea and Showik have been granted bail, the case is still under investigation.
