Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister (CM) of Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) on the 26th of May, reviewed the Wuhan virus situation and medical facilities provided to people at private hospitals.

While reviewing the COVID-19 situation, the A.P., CM directed the concerned officials to impose penalties on private hospitals for violation of the COVID-19 treatment guidelines. The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) President asked the officials to ensure, no private hospitals are overcharging COVID-19 patients and are acting as per COVID-19 norms. He asked officials to impose penalties with a warning and register criminal cases against the hospitals for the second time COVID-19 norms violation.

The State CM said, strict action should be taken against such hospitals within 24 hours. If the concerned officials fail to take action in 24 hours, the official would also face the consequences. Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy said, “If not, the vigilance wing will bring it to my notice then the action will be initiated against the concerned officials.”

The decision was in the wake of the rising number of complaints against the private hospitals treating COVID-19 patients and overcharging.

Meanwhile, the YSRCP President asked officials to ensure 50% beds at the private hospitals to Aarogyasri patients without fail.

The officials should also ensure effective functioning of CCTVs and Arogya Mitras. It is to be noted, 70 % COVID-19 infected people of Andhra Pradesh are getting their treatment at private hospitals under the State Government’s Aarogyasri scheme.
