The Telangana Health Department is all set to administer the first doses of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19.

According to sources, along with the frontline workers, the Telangana lawmakers would also get the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

Most of the lawmakers including Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) and Members of the Legislative Council (MLCs) would be going to their constituencies and taking the vaccine.

Speaking about the step of giving doses to lawmakers, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) members said, this was a measure contemplated to create confidence among people regarding the vaccine.

They said this would induce confidence amongst volunteers stating the administered vaccine is safe and there was no need to have any kind of apprehension.

However, a final decision regarding the same would be taken during a high level meeting.

K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, called for a high level meeting to discuss the COVID-19 vaccine distribution.

The meeting scheduled on the 11th of January, would be chaired by the President of the TRS, KCR.

KCR instructed the state Police, Health, Municipal Administration and Panchayat Raj officials to finalise the list of frontline warriors who would be given the vaccine dose in the first phase.

The local body authorities have been asked to prepare a list of senior citizens who are above 55 years of age from the voters’ lists prepared by the Election Commission of India (ECI.)
