The Chief Secretary of Telangana, Somesh Kumar on the 15th of April, conducted a series of meetings regarding the current situation of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19. He met district officials and Health Department staff of Telangana to discuss the same. 

During the meetings, Mr. Kumar discussed issues like scarcity of beds, availability of oxygen and other equipment, issues of imposing a night curfew and ways to curb the spread of COVID-19. 

The Chief Secretary also enquired about the availability of oxygen and its judicious use in the district COVID-19 hospitals, strict implementation of compulsory mask in the public places, COVID-19 vaccination drive, ramping up the Novel Coronavirus testing and the increase of bed strength in government and private hospitals.

The meeting was held after several district hospitals reported shortage of beds and unavailability of oxygen in hospitals.

Highlighting the same, in the past few days, Adilabad, Nizamabad and the regions under the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) reported shortage in beds. 

In addition, the Director of Public Health in Telangana, G. Srinivas Rao cautioned people and said that the virus was spreading rapidly in the State. He said about 20,000 beds were ready across the State and the demand for more beds was also on the rise. He even appealed to people to realise the intensity of the situation and strictly follow COVID-19 protocols like wearing a clean three layered mask, maintaining social distance, and sanitising of hands at regular intervals.
