The new strain of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 found in the United Kingdom (U.K.,) created panic in Telangana.
Despite a ban on flights from the U.K., to India, nearly 2,000 passengers arrived in Telangana.
The Indian Civil Aviation Ministry announced a ban on flights from U.K., to India and from India to the U.K., as a precautionary measure towards the new COVID-19 strain.
The ban was imposed from the 22nd of December till the 31st of December. However, the flights before the 22nd of December, arrived in India, creating panic among people and the Indian Government.
After strict guidelines and precautions taken by the Union Government and state governments, the U.K., returnees are violating given rules and providing fake address and contact information.
Due to the same, the concerned authorities are facing difficulties to trace those U.K., returnees for COVID-19 tests.
In Telangana one more U.K., returnee tested positive, taking the number of U.K., returnees to 21, who tested positive for COVID-19.
Dr. G. Srinivasa Rao, the Director of the Public Health of Telangana, on the 28th of December, said, “We use tracing, testing and treatment to prevent the spread of the virus. We are collecting details of those from the U.K., and examining their health condition. Since December 9, a total of 1,216 people have come to Telangana from the U.K. Of whom we have identified 1,060. Six of them have returned to other countries. 58 are from other states. We have provided information to the respective states. Of those traced in our state, 996 were tested and 966 were diagnosed corona negative. 21 turned out to be positive and another nine were expected to come up with results (sic.)”
Speaking of the one returnee who tested positive for COVID-19, Mr. Rao said the person was from Medchal district.
Highlighting the location of those 21 U.K., returnees, Mr. Rao said, “Of those who came positive, four were from Hyderabad, nine from Medchal Malkajgiri district, two from Jagatiala district, and one each from Manchiryala, Nalgonda, Rangareddy, Sangareddy, Siddipet and Warangal urban districts. We put 21 people in special wards in different hospitals. Their address and phone numbers are not comprehensive, so those who have come directly to the State from the U.K., after December 9 or have travelled through the U.K., are kindly requested to provide their details. We sent the samples of those who came positive to the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology.”
Of the total returnees, nearly 156 are untraceable as they provided fake address and contact number.
The Telangana Health Department is trying to connect to those untraceable people.
Meanwhile, Telangana COVID-19 Cases
as On 29th December stand at 2,85,465, of which active cases at 5,999, 2,77,931are recovery cases and 1,535 deceased.
