K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, held a review meeting regarding the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation in the State. The meeting was conducted on the 9th of May, at Pragati Bhavan.

During the meeting, KCR directed officials to start operation of super speciality hospitals in Warangal and Adilabad. The hospitals would be inaugurated by KCR soon and would be an enhancement to medical infrastructure during the COVID-19 pandemic. The new 250 bed super specialty hospital is a wing of the Mahatma Gandhi Medical (MGM) Hospital, constructed on the premises of Kakatiya Medical College in Warangal.

Another 250 bed super specialty hospital is ready for inauguration on the premises of Rajiv Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Adilabad. The construction of both the hospitals was an initiative to enhance medical infrastructure in these two places under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY.)

In regard to this, KCR directed the Principal Secretary for Finance Ministry K. Ramakrishna Rao to release Rs. 28 crores. The amount would be used for the construction of these super specialty hospitals, Rs. 8 crores for the hospital at MGM and Rs. 20 crores for the hospital at RIMS. He also asked to recruit 729 staff for vacant posts, of which 363 posts are at Warangal hospital and another 366 posts are vacant at RIMS-Adilabad.

Meanwhile, concerned with the situation of poor people amid COVID-19 crisis, the Telangana CM decided to distribute 5 kg of rice to one having white ration card. Each person would get 5 kg rice free, for the next two months.

Oxygen, Remdesivir, Beds and Other Availability In Telangana:

During the review meeting, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) President also enquired about the availability of oxygen, Remdesvir injections, beds and other facilities for COVID-19 patients. The officials informed that there was no shortage of oxygen, Remdesivir injections and all other medicines. Highlighting the same, a concerned official said, a total of 7,393 beds are available in government hospitals, while another 2,470 oxygen beds and 600 ventilator beds were kept ready for patients. Medical teams along with medicines have been kept available at all government hospitals. The Chief Minister directed officials to make medicines such as Remdesivir injections available in private hospitals also.

Meanwhile in order to curb the spread of the virus, KCR spoke to Dr. Harsh Vardhan and suggested identifying super spreaders and give vaccination to them on a priority basis. It would help to curb the spread. He also asked to ease lockdown norms and form a special category for vaccinating auto rickshaw drivers, cab drivers, conductors, gas vendors, street vendors and others. Mr. Harsh Vardhan said, he would speak about the suggestion to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and inform him soon.

Cabinet ministers like T. Harish Rao, E. Dayakar Rao, the Telangana State Planning Board Vice Chairman Vinod Kumar, Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, the Telangana Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar, the State Principal Secretary (IT and Industries) Jayesh Ranjan, the Principal Secretary (Medical and Health) S.A.M.Rizvi, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) Special Officer for COVID-19 Rajasekhar Reddy, the Director of Health G. Srinivas Rao, the Director of Medical Education K.Ramesh Reddy, the Kaloji Health University Vice Chancellor Karunakar Reddy, the TSMSIDC Managing Director Chandrashekhar Reddy, Technical Advisor Mr. Gangadhar and others attended the meeting.
