India Reports New COVID-19 Cases, Total Crosses 27 lakhs

On the 18th of August, India recorded 55,079 cases of the Novel Coronavirus, taking the total to 27,02,743.

Meanwhile, death cases reached 51,796 deaths including 876 reported in the last 24 hours.

In India there are 27,02,743 positive cases, of which 6,73,166 are active cases,19,77,780 recovered/discharged and 51,797 death cases till the 18th of August.

The data of the COVID-19 cases of India has been confirmed by the Union Health Ministry and was also updated on the official website of the Ministry of Home and Family Welfare (MoHFW.)

In the past few days, this is the first time India reported less than 60,000 new cases.

In addition, the recovery rate from the Novel Coronavirus in India stands at 72.51%.

In addition, India tested approximately 3 crore samples till date. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) a total of 3,09,41,264 samples have been tested till date.

Approximately, 8,99,864 samples were tested in the past 24 hours.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said, “Focused implementation of Centre-led strategies has ensured prompt identification, timely isolation & effective clinical treatment, leading to reduced Case Fatality Rate. 30 States/UTs performed better than the national average (sic.)”

Some of the states and union territories with low fatality rate from the COVID-19 infection are: Arunachal Pradesh (0.19%,) Assam (0.25%,) Kerala (0.35%,) Bihar (0.44%,) Himachal Pradesh (0.46%,) Odisha (0.57%,) Telangana (0.76%,) Goa (0.89%,) Chhattisgarh (0.91%,) Andhra Pradesh (0.91%,) Jharkhand (1.06%,) Haryana (1.14%,) Uttarakhand (1.25%,) Rajasthan (1.43%,) Uttar Pradesh (1.59%,) Tamil Nadu (1.71%,) Karnataka (1.74%) and Jammu and Kashmir (1.90%.)

The national average rate of fatality due to COVID-19 is at 1.92%.

On the other hand, the majority of cases were reported from ten states. The states reported the highest number of cases are Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, West Bengal, Bihar, Telangana and Gujarat.
