On the 15th of December, Wednesday, three people tested positive for the new variant of the Wuhan virus, Omicron.

Dr. G. Srinivasa Rao, the Director of Public Health in Telangana confirmed the positive cases and said, “Two cases of Omicron variant in the State from non risk countries.  A man from Somalia and a woman from Kenya have tested positive for Omicron.  They came to Hyderabad from Dubai… We are tracking one more person.”  It is to be noted, the third Omicron positive patient is a native of West Bengal and left on December 14, prior to results of genome sequencing reports. The Telangana Government informed the West Bengal Government about the 7 year old Omicron positive case.  In addition, of the remaining two cases, the woman is being treated at the Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS), the man is being traced.

Both the Somalia and Kenya returnees are residents of Tolichowki region in Hyderabad and came from ‘non-risk’ countries. 

Meanwhile, amid the three Omicron positive cases, the Hyderabad International Airport authority took strict measures and intensified their screening.
