On the 20th of July, India reported 40,425 new cases of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 infection.
The cases registered in the past 24 hours took the total surge to 11,18,043 cases.
The massive rise in the cases is a matter of concern for the Union Government and states government.
Due to the increasing number of cases, India’s recovery rate also dropped to 62.60 % from the previous 62.90%.
However, India’s COVID-19 case fatality rate is said to be improving, as it at 2.4 %, which is one of the lowest in the world.
The Union Health Ministry yesterday, credited the efficient clinical management of hospitalised cases for this achievement.
According to the Union Health Ministry, the case fatality rate (CFR) has fallen below 2.5% for the first time.
With these updates, India has 11,18,043 positive cases, including 3,90,459 active cases, 7,00,086 recovered/discharged cases. Death cases in India stand at 27,497.
The majority of the cases are from Maharashtra, Delhi, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. While the Maharashtra Government and the Delhi Government increased the number of tests to control the spread, Kerala, West Bengal, Bihar and Karnataka Governmentgovernments announced a partial lockdown in containment zones.
Meanwhile, the human trials of Bharat Biotech’s vaccine for coronavirus COVAXIN, began at Rohtak’s Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences.
If approved by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) the vaccine could be launched as a cure for the deadly virus which broke out 8 months back, in December 2019.
Until the ICMR approves the vaccine, the ICMR asked the governments of the various states and union territories to enhance the three major Ts- test, track and treat.
