The Chittoor Administration extended the imposed curfew in the district in the wake of the rising number of the Wuhan virus or Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases.

The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Minister for Panchayati Raj in A.P., Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy announced the extension of curfew on the 29th of May. 

With this, Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh is under lockdown until the 15th of June.  The decision was taken after the district reported a massive number of the COVID-19 infection.  In the past 24 hours, Chittoor reported the highest 2,291 new cases, taking the total to 1,85,680 cases.  It is also the second worst COVID-19 affected district in the State with 20,810 active cases of the Wuhan virus.  East Godavari with 31,993 active cases is the first worst COVID-19 affected district of Andhra Pradesh (A.P.) 

During a media conference on Saturday, Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy said, the district would be under strict curfew until the 15th of June.  The relaxation timing has also been reduced by 2 hours and is between 6:00 A.M., to 10:00 A.M.  Previously, the activities were allowed till 12 noon.  According to issued guidelines, all other shops except medical shops would be closed. 

The minister said, “People from other states have to enter Chittoor district after obtaining e passes from (the) A.P., police.”

Meanwhile, currently Chittoor has 20,810 active cases of the Wuhan virus and 1,254 deceased cases.  It is to be noted, of all the districts, Chittoor has the highest number of deceased cases due to the Wuhan virus, taking the tally of A.P., death cases to 10,634.
