Mr. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh , gave his views regarding the recent boycott cry of the opposition parties.

On the 24th of May, Wednesday, approximately 20 opposition parties, including the Indian National Congress (INC,) the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK,) the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and others issued a joint statement to boycott the inauguration of the new parliament building.  Scheduled for inauguration on the 28th of May, the new parliament building has become a topic of controversy, as the opposition are raising voice against the inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, instead of Ms. Droupadi Murmu, the President of India.  They questioned why the President of India is not inaugurating the parliament building, but the Prime Minister is doing it.

Reacting to this opposing, Mr. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy said, “Boycotting such an auspicious event is not in the true spirit of democracy.”

In a tweet the Andhra Pradesh CM said, “Setting aside all political differences, I request that all political parties attend this glorious event.  In the true spirit of democracy, my party will attend this historic event.”

Furthermore, Mr. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for dedicating the grand, majestic and spacious Parliament building to the nation. 

In another tweet, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) President Mr. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy said, “Parliament, being the temple of democracy, reflects our nation’s soul and belongs to the people of our country and all the political parties.”


The new parliament building is set for inauguration on the 28th of May.
