Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, on the 19th of May, announced plans to open public and private schools in Andhra Pradesh from the 3rd of August.

All public and private schools in A.P., are shut since the 24th of March due to the nation wide lockdown, as a precautionary measure to curb the spread of the Novel Coronavirus.

Mr. Reddy directed the concerned officials to open schools and change the infrastructure of the schools, following social distancing norms under the Nadu Nedu programme.  Under the Nadu Nedu programme, schools, colleges, Gurukuls, hostels and degree colleges across Andhra Pradesh would be renovated.

Mr.Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy briefed the Education department officials on the development of the schools as per the launched Nadu Nedu programme.

On the 14th of November 2019, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) launched the programme.  The programme was launched to help in developing infrastructure and additional facilities like repainting the walls, new blackboards, toilets and others for school students.

The State Government released a fund of Rs. 456 crores for this programme.

The work under the programme is expected to be completed by the end of July in 2020.
