Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, conducted a review meeting over the cyclone Yaas.

The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) President Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy conducted the review meeting at his camp office in Tadepalli, today the 24th of May.  

During the meeting, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy discussed the conditions in the State, especially coastal areas in the path of the cyclone.  The Chief Minister also reviewed the steps to be taken to control the situation and alerted district officials of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam.

Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy also directed the concerned authorities handling the Wuhan virus or the Novel Coronavirus situation to ensure safety of COVID-19 patients.  He asked officials to see that patients do not get into any trouble due to the cyclone.  He also asked to ensure arrangements for power supply to the plants producing oxygen, hospitals treating COVID-19 patients.  He suggested no power disturbance or outage should happen in the State due to the cyclone. 

Concluding the meeting, Mr. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy said, “We need to think twice and take effective measures to ensure that the power supply to the covid centers is not disrupted and keep the necessary technical staff ready.”

The State Government led by Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy also set up a helpline in Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam, respectively for the areas affected by the cyclone Yaas. 

Meanwhile, as per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) the cyclone named Yaas, would bring heavy to very heavy rainfall in coastal regions of Andhra Pradesh. 

The cyclonic storm is likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm in the next 24 hours.  Cyclone Yaas (pronounced as Yass) has been named by Oman.  Yaas refers to a tree that has a good fragrance and in English, the word is similar to Jasmine. 

In Andhra Pradesh, the cyclone would result in heavy to very heavy rainfall for the next three days.  However, the major impact of the cyclone would be in the north east states like West Bengal and Odisha.
