On the 21st of December, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government organised blood donation camps and made a record.

In just 8 hours, nearly 34,723 units of blood were donated, by eager people including YSRCP ministers, cadres and activists.

The State registered 10,217 people for donating blood on the occasion of Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s birthday.

The blood donation event was organised to mark the 48th birthday celebration of Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.

Representatives of the Wonder Book of Records International, certified the record and presented the citation and a medal to the Government Advisor (Public Affairs) Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy at the Party Central Office in Tadepalli, Andhra Pradesh.

Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy said, “We have decided to organize blood donation camps as part of CM Jagan’s birthday celebrations following inputs from the health department that there is severe shortage of blood in the blood banks due to the COVID-19. Although we are little apprehensive about the response due to covid-19 fears among the public, they have proved our suspicion wrong by donating over 35000 units.”

Besides 175 constituencies of Andhra Pradesh, the blood donation camps were set up in Karnataka and Tamilnadu also.

A total of 278 blood donation camps were set up and nearly 12,153 litres of blood was collected. The Representative of the Wonder Book of Records expected 17,000 units of blood, but the State recorded nearly 35,000 units of blood in a span of 8 hours.

The decision to organise blood donation camps on Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s birthday, was taken to overcome the shortage of blood due to the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 outbreak.

All blood banks in the State received adequate blood under the donation program.
