Monkeypox infection, which outbroke in 2022 is spreading rapidly across the world.  Approximately 23 countries, including India, are affected by the sudden spread of the disease.

On the 30th of May, Monday, the World Health Organisation (WHO) confirmed monkeypox virus’ spread to 23 non endemic countries with over 257 cases and around 120 suspected cases.

Although experts suggested that the infection would not turn into another pandemic, there are many unknown facts about the disease, including how exactly it’s spreading and its transmission.  A health expert Dr. Rosamund Lewis said, “It’s very important to describe this because it appears to be an increase in a mode of transmission that may have been under recognized in the past.”  She further added, “At the moment, we are not concerned about a global pandemic.  We are concerned that individuals may acquire this infection through high risk exposure if they don’t have the information they need to protect themselves.”

The countries where this disease is spreading rapidly are: the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Canada, Belgium, Austria, Sudan, Argentina, French Guiana, the United Arab Emirates, Czechia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Australia.

In addition, countries like  India, China, Pakistan and European nations have issued strict measures against the transmission of the disease.  Meanwhile, in India, states like Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Maharashtra issued separate directives to keep a watch amid the global outbreak of monkeypox.
