Nara Chandrababu Naidu, the President of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) demanded closure of LG Polymers, a chemical plant in Visakhapatnam, responsible for the Vizag gas leak incident.

On the 8th of May, Chandrababu Naidu, addressed the media through video conferencing and said, if the company is not proven guilty after investigation, the units should be shifted to other areas.  However, if the company is responsible for the tragic incident, it should be closed.

In addition, Mr. Naidu demanded a high level committee to probe the matter which should comprise national and international experts of chemical science and chemical engineering.

TDP President Chandrababu Naidu also criticised the Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy led the Andhra Pradesh Government to take the matter lightly and not conduct necessary measures for people.

He said, “The Government was taking the huge tragedy in a simple and lighter way, which was reflecting in the cases lodged against the  LG Polymers.”

The Visakhapatnam Police registered a case against LG Polymers under relevant sections including Culpable Homicide of the Indian Penal Code (IPC.)

Highlighting the questions raised by E.S.E Sarma, an environmental activists and the National Green Tribunal (NGT) hearing, Mr. Naidu said these facts explain the negligence and seriousness of Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Chandrababu Naidu said he will write letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for  a probe in the tragic incident of Visakhapatnam.

On the 7th of May, a chemical gas leaked from LG Polymers in Visakhapatnam, which killed 12 people and left thousands with health issues.  While 236 were admitted to the hospital, 70 were reported unconscious and 20 are on ventilators.
