On the 18th of June, Saturday, the Visakhapatnam Railway Authority, announced to close the railway station amid the protest against the Central Government’s “Agnipath” Army recruitment scheme.

The Railway authority also beefed up security at all other major stations in Andhra Pradesh as a precautionary measure to prevent protests.  The decision to beef up security was taken after a violent protest broke out in the neighboring Telugu State of Telangana.

As per the intelligence alerts, army aspirants in Andhra Pradesh are planning a massive protest in the State.  To ensure the safety of people, the concerned authorities have shut down the station and stopped the trains at 7 a.m. 

Officials said the station will remain closed till noon and passengers were allowed into the station till 7:00 A.M., after thorough checking. 

Furthermore, all trains coming from Vijayawada were being stopped or diverted at the Duvvada railway station on the outskirts.  In addition, trains coming from Howrah were being stopped or diverted at Kothavalasa. 

In addition, a high alert was sounded at the Guntur railway station following reports that youth aspiring to join the army are planning a huge protest. 

On the other hand, at least 20 youths who were heading towards the Guntur station were arrested by police at Kothapet.  The alert was sounded because of reports messages were being circulated on WhatsApp for the planned protest at Guntur station. 

Security was also beefed up at Vijayawada, Kurnool, Tirupati, and other major railway stations in Andhra Pradesh.
