In a tragic accident in Andhra Pradesh’s Anantapur district, nine people died.

On the night of the 6th of February, Sunday, a sport utility vehicle (SUV) collided with a lorry at the Budagavi village in Andhra Pradesh’s Anantapur district.

According to the Andhra Pradesh police, the deceased were all relatives and were returning to their native village at Uravakonda. They were coming from a wedding from Bellary in neighboring Karnataka.

Of the deceased people, a local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader was also killed. The deceased included 2 men, 6 women, and a child.

Mr. Venkata Swamy, the Uravakonda Police Station Sub Inspector, said, “The police have registered a case and further investigation is underway.”

In addition, the deceased was sent for an autopsy test and the identities are yet to be ascertained.

Meanwhile, condemning the tragic incident, the Prime Minister of India Mr. Narendra Modi announced an ex gratia of Rs. 2 lakh for the family of those who was killed in the accident. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Twitter said, “Pained by the loss of lives due to a tragic accident in Anantapur district, AP. Condolences to the bereaved families. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of the deceased.”
