In Andhra Pradesh’s Gudivada region of Krishna district, tension prevailed amid a clash between the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders.

The clash started over events organised by both the YSRCP and the TDP to mark the death anniversary of Vangaveeti Mohan Ranga Rao, the former Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA.)  The TDP functionaries alleged that YSRCP leader Merugumala Kali made a phone call to former TDP MLA Ravi Venkateswara Rao and threatened to kill him if he organised a programme to mark the 24th death anniversary of Ranga. Soon the matter escalated leading to chaos in the Krishna district.  Furthermore, the TDP leaders and workers went to the resident Kodali Nani, the Krishna district MLA and YSRCP leader and created a ruckus.

Police have imposed prohibitory orders under section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code banning meetings and rallies. Additional police forces were deployed in the town to prevent any untoward incident.

TDP leaders and the YSRCP leaders raised slogans against each other, leading to heated arguments and clashes.  Furthermore, the Andhra Pradesh Police intervened and controlled the situation.  The police erected barricades and deployed personnel around the TDP office to prevent any gathering.  The TDP leaders offered tributes to Ranga at his statue at AGK School in the town.

On the other side, the YSRCP men were gathering at another place and threatening to disrupt the programme. The ruling party leaders say that TDP has no right to organise the death anniversary programme of Ranga.

It is to be noted, Mr. Vangaveeti Mohan Ranga Rao, a leader of the Indian National Congress (INC) party belonging to the Kapu community, was murdered in 1988.  He was on hunger strike, demanding land pattas for the people of the Kapu community and was allegedly murdered.  The controversial murder erupted violence and blood pools in Vijayawada, ending the years Nehru Vanga rivalry over caste politics.

After the death of Vangaveeti Mohan Ranga Rao, a violent riot erupted in the region, a curfew was imposed in the joint state of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and 42 people lost their lives.

Furthermore, sice 1988, the TDP leaders organised event and mark the death anniversary of late Vangaveeti Mohan Ranga Rao.
