The Telugu State of Telangana continues to report a surge in the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) and its new variant, Omicron cases.

On the 7th of January, Friday, Telangana recorded 2,295 COVID-19 cases, 3 fatalities and 278 recoveries. The new figures were confirmed by the Telangana Health Department, in a media bulletin, released on the evening of Friday.

Notably, of the new cases, over 50% cases were registered from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC.) The City reported 1,452 new cases of COVID-19, taking the total active cases of Telangana to 9,861. In addition, the total number of recovered cases in Telangana are 6,75,851 with 97.98% recovery rate and 0.58 % fatality rate.

The new cases were confirmed after conducting 64,474 tests, of which 2,295 turned positive and the reports of 10,336 are awaited. Till date, a total of 3,00,02,149 COVID-19 tests have been conducted in the State.

Besides COVID-19 cases, Telangana also reported a surge in cases of a new variant of COVID-19, that is Omicron. In Telangana, there are 94 Omicron cases till the 5th of January.

It is to be noted, the Telangana Health Department stopped sharing Omicron information and the last information was shared on the 5th of January.

As per the 5th January’s data, there were 94 cases of Omicron, of which 43 recovered and the remaining are being treated at the Telangana Institute of Medical Science (TIMS.)
