Nimmala Rama Naidu, a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP,) on the 16th of December, travelled by an AP State Road Transport Corporation (RTC) bus.

Mr. Rama Naidu travelled by the APSRTC bus from Palgallu to Chikkala, West Godavari, Andhra Pradesh, to inquire about the perspective of the citizens of AP about the hike in bus fares.

MLA Rama Naidu said, “The Government has put a burden with Rs. 1000 crore with bus fares hike, the bus fare hike has been increased by 50 per cent.”  With this statement, MLA Rama Naidu asked whether the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) is trying to reduce the number of people commuting by APSRTC buses.  He also highlighted the decision of the YSRCP to increase the price of alcohol in the State to reduce alcohol consumption and compared the hike in bus fares to the hike in alcohol prices.

Recently, the YSRCP Government issued an order to increase the APSRTC bus fares across Andhra Pradesh.

While the Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy led YSRCP assured the move would not affect the common public, the TDP criticised the YSRCP for the same.

The new APSRTC bus fares came into effect from the 11th of December.
