On the 24th of December, tensions erupted in Srikakulam district.

The tension prevailed following the house arrest of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders.

Leaders like Former Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) Gautham Shivaji is placed under house arrest by the police in Sompeta.

The TDP State President Atchennaidu and the Member of Parliament (MP) Rammohan Naidu placed under house arrest in Palasa.

According to the sources, the house arrest was due to imposed Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) to prevent any untoward incidents.

The TDP has called for protests against Minister Appalaraju’s remarks on Sarthar Gouthu Latchanna. The police were alerted after YSRCP leaders were also planned for protests. Earlier, the controversy erupted over the statue of Gouthu Latchanna .Lachana in the Palasa with the minister’s remarks on the removal of the Lachanna statue.

In regard to this, Police forces were heavily deployed at the statue of Sardar Gouthu Latchanna.

The minister alleged that the TDP leaders were cleverly licensed to occupy the land by erecting the temple land.

This is the first thing that comes to the minds of the locals when there is a discussion on land grabbing in Palasa. He said that it is not good to drag Gouthu Latchanna name for politics.

The leaders are still under house arrest.
