T- Works, an electronic hardware startup incubator company, launched a ventilator at cheap cost for hospitals to fight the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 infection.

The start up company decided to make the cheap cost ventilators to help hospitals in the wake of the Coronavirus crisis and short supply of ventilators for patients.

The T-Work Company said, “The cost of (other) ventilators ranges from Rs. 5 lakhs to Rs.40 lakhs depending on specifications and sophistication.”   However, the ventilators at T-Works would be available at a range of Rs. 65,000 to Rs. 80,000.

Sujai Karampuri, Chief Executive Officer of T-Works, said, the ventilators are upto the mark and the specifications needed by the doctors at the hospitals to cure the patients.

The ventilators were developed in a span of 31 days by a 20 member team from T-Works.  The device uses a bag valve mask (BVM), popularly known as an Ambu bag, and tracks vital parameters such as tidal volume, airflow, peak pressure and oxygen concentration.

K.T. Rama Rao, the Information Technology, Electronics and Communications Minister of Telangana said  the State would consider such ventilators as part of its efforts to contain the virus.

Currently, the incubator is obtaining feedback from the doctors of Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Apollo Hospital, Sunshine Hospital and Prathima Hospital.

Mr. Karampuri said, “The device uses most commonly available mechanical and electronic parts, using micro-controller boards, pressure sensors, valves, and easily fabricated mechanical parts and motors.”  He further said, “Multiple fabrication options with local manufacturers is possible with shorter lead time in procurement and faster and easier assembly.” he said.

Meanwhile, India reported a total of 21,013 positive cases of Novel Coronavirus and 686 deaths till date.
