Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to conduct a video conference meeting with the chief ministers of Indian states on the 16th and the 17th of June.

The meeting comes at a time when India is witnessing a hike in the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 cases in the past 10 days.

In the past few days, India witnessed approximately 9,000 cases on a regular basis.    Besides, this would be the first meeting after India emerged out of the nation wide lockdown in a phased manner.


On the 1st of June, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced strict lockdown 5.0, for containment zones and Unlock 1.0, for Red, Orange and Green Zones.

Under the Unlock 1.0, shopping malls, salons, restaurants, inter state movement and temples were allowed to open across the Nation.

The fresh round of meetings after the imposed lockdown 5.0, and Unlock 1.0, would discuss the precautionary measures taken during the 5th lockdown.

The other major issues which would be a part of the meeting is the rising number of COVID-1 cases in India.  On the 7th of June, India became 4th worst COVID-19 hit nation leaving behind the United Kingdom (U.K.)

The other 3  nations, ahead of India are the United States of America (U.S.A.,) with 20,76,495 cases, Brazil with 7,87,489 cases and Russia with 5,02,436 cases till the 13th of June.

The PM’s meeting with the chief ministers of Indian states would be in two phases.  In the first phase, the 16th of June, Mr. Modi would meet 21 CMs.

Union territories and States in the first phase are:

Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Dadar Nagar Haveli & Daman Diu, Punjab, Assam, Kerala, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Tripura, Himachal, Chandigarh, Goa, Manipur, Nagaland, Ladakh, Puducherry, Arunachal, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Sikkim and Lakshadweep.

On the 17th of June, CMs of Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Jammu And Kashmir, Telangana, Odisha, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal and Karnataka, would interact.
