Municipal workers go on strike in AP

Guntur: Row of strike calls given by workers had become a concern for the state government in AP. While Anganwadi workers were on strike for around 13 days, municipal workers joined the strike demanding to fulfill long pending demands.

Around 50,000 contract and outsourcing sanitation workers go on strike from Tuesday demanding the government to increase the pay. AP Municipal Workers Association (APMWA) alleged that CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy promised many things including pay hike, less work burden and health care benefits. But none of them were fulfilled till date.

State government is presently paying Rs.15,000 salary to every sanitation worker. Government stalled the Rs.6000 health allowance after Covid-19 and workers staged a huge protest to regain it.

State government included the sanitation workers in AP Corporation for Outsourced Service (APCOS) and latter declared sanitation workers ineligible for government schemes like Amma Vodi, Cheyutha and others.

Sanitation workers demanded the government to fulfill all pending demands including salary hike to Rs.26,000 following equal pay for equal work principle.
