Mr. Mekapati Vikram Reddy, the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Atmakur, dismissed rumors that he is leaving the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP.)

It is to be noted, there was a rumor that Mr. Mekapati Vikram Reddy, who recently joined the YSRCP, after the demise of his brother Mekapati Goutham Reddy.  Later, he was nominated for the vacant position of Atmakur MLA on the YSRCP ticket and won the elections.  He took the oath as the YSRCP MLA from Atmakur Assembly constituency, which was the constituency of Mr. Vikram Reddy’s brother, late Goutham Reddy.

After several reports that Mr. Vikram Reddy is leaving the YSRCP amid dissatisfaction, he addressed the media and clarified.  The Atmakuru MLA Mr. Mekapati Vikram Reddy said he does not bother about such rumours and asserted that his journey with Mr. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh would continue.  He expressed confidence that the YSRCP would win all the seats in Nellore district in the next assembly elections, scheduled in 2024. 

Notably, the rumors of Mr. Mekapati Vikram Reddy leaving the YSRCP started after the ruling party suspended four MLAs, alleging them of violating party guidelines and cross voting in the MLA Quota and MLC elections.  

Of the four MLAs, Mr. Anam Ramnarayan Reddy, Ms. Undavalli Sridevi, Mr. Mekapati Chandrasekhar Reddy and Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy, Mr. Mekapati Chandrasekhar Reddy is the uncle of Mr. Mekapati Vikram Reddy.  Following the suspension, many media houses started reporting that dissatisfied with the suspension, Mr. Mekapti Vikram Reddy is likely to resign from the YSRCP.

Furthermore, Mr. Vikram Reddy reminded that his family has been associated with Jagan Mohan Reddy for a long time and observed that his father Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy had even resigned his MP seat twice in support of the former.   Addressing the media, Mr. Mekapati Vikram Reddy said, “Even after the untimely death of my brother Goutham, he (Jagan) called us and gave that seat (Goutham’s) to us.  The vacuum of my brother’s loss has been filled by him.  For any help, I always approach Jagan anna first.”

Mr. Vikram Reddy also said, he would be supporting the right thing and would not appreciate violations of voting guidelines and cross voting.
