The Telugu State of Andhra Pradesh is witnessing heavy to moderate rainfall amid a low depression formed in the Southeast Bay of Bengal.  The low depression turned into a cyclone after midnight, on the 7th of December, bringing rainfall in the coastal region of Andhra Pradesh.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) and the State Weather Department, cautioned people of rainfall and low temperature, especially during early hours and late nights in the State.

According to the Meteorological Department, the cyclone is moving towards the coasts of North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and South Andhra Pradesh.   Due to this, it is expected that there will be a severe impact on the districts of South Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema. 

Furthermore, the IMD has issued a red alert in the Chittoor district, where heavy rainfall is expected for the next few days.  According to the IMD forecast, the cyclone is currently east southeast of Karaikal, about 700 km distance from Chennai.  

Besides Chittoor,  Prakasam, Nellore, Tirupati, Annamaiya and YSR districts of South Coast are also expected to witness heavy to moderate rainfall for the next three days, till the 10th of December.

Considering the rainfall situation, the concerned authority has alerted fishermen, asking them not to venture near seas.
