Thousands of political leaders of several parties including the Indian National Congress gathered and paid their homage to the veteran leader Oomen Chandy.
Oomen Chandy passed away on the 18th of July, in Bengaluru, following which his mortal remains reached Kottayam on Thursday, the 20th of July. According to sources, Mr. Oommen Chandy, 79 years old, was suffering from throat cancer and took his last breath at a private hospital in Bengaluru, Karnataka. He wasn’t doing well healthwise and was staying in Bengaluru for his treatment since November 2o22.
The police and Seva Dal workers of Congress as well as its leaders could barely control the sea of people who vied with each other to get a final glimpse of He Chandy.
The last rites would be held with full state honors in the home constituency of Mr. Oomen Chandy, Puthupally in Kottayam district, Kerala.
Mr. Oommen Chandy won his first election in 1970 from his home constituency Puthupally in Kottayam district, Kerala. It is to be noted, Mr. Oommen Chandy was the sitting Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Puthuppally constituency, serving as the MLA until his last breath, for an uninterrupted 53 years.
