The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) marked World Ocean Day by carrying out a beach cleanliness drive near Vizhinjam, collecting around 150 kg of garbage.

The ICG station at Vizhinjam also arranged a human chain to raise awareness about the importance of protecting the biologically diverse marine environment. The initiative sought to highlight the growing concern about ocean pollution and promote ICG’s ‘Swachh Sagara Surakshit Sagara’ (Clean Seas, Safe Seas) campaign.

The ICG officers and staff, local authorities and volunteers from the Uday Samudra Group and the Fire Brigade all took part in the clean-up drive. The ICG expressed its appreciation to all those involved in the clean-up and underlined their commitment to the protection of the coast and marine ecosystems.
