Amid the rising number of the Wuhan virus cases, also known as the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19,) and its new variant, Omicron, Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi held a review meeting.

The meeting was scheduled at 4:30 P.M.,on the 9th of January, Sunday.  During the meeting, Mr. Narendra Modi discussed the current scenario due to the Wuhan virus surge and new strain’s spread.  He emphasised on the need of health infrastructure at the district level and asked officials to coordinate their efforts with the states.  He also directed to launch active surveillance and containment operations, to prevent the community from spreading or the virus and its mutant.

Mr. Narendra Modi also stressed on the need to ensure effective usage of masks and physical distancing, asking states/UTs governments to ensure, people are following COVID-19 protocols strictly.

PM Narendra Modi also asked to manage effective implementation of home isolation for mild/asymptomatic cases and to disseminate the factual information to the community at large.  The Prime Minister also asked to begin non COVID-19 health facilities, for patients across India. 

The Union Home Minister Mr. Amit Shah, the Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Home secretary Mr. Ajay Kumar Bhalla, the Cabinet Secretary Mr. Rajiv Gauba and other officials were present at the meeting.

The meeting chaired by Mr. Narendra Modi, came at a time when India reported over 1.51 lakh single day cases of the Wuhan virus.  On Sunday, India recorded 159,632 fresh Wuhan virus cases, taking the active cases tally to over 5 lakhs.  In addition, the Omicron variant cases stood at 3,623 cases till date.
