In Andhra Pradesh, flood flow at the Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage at Dowaleswaram near Rajamahendravaram, crossed the 24 lakh cusecs mark on the 16th of July, Saturday morning.

The watermark, which is expected to go further in the day, amid the continuous rainfall has become a matter of concern for nearby villages.  Notably, approximately 300 villages under 42 mandals in six districts along the Godavari course are reeling under the flood impact while another 177 villages lay marooned, confirmed to the State Disaster Management Authority.

Of all the regions, the worst hit was Konaseema district where 36 Lanka (island) villages were inundated.  Moreover, about 220 relief camps are continuing in different districts where 62,337 people from flood-hit habitations have been sheltered.

Mr. B.R. Ambedkar, the SDMA Managing Director said, ten teams each of the National Disaster Rescue Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Rescue Force (SDRF) have been engaged in rescue and relief operations.

Meanwhile, Mr. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, also spoke to collectors of the affected districts and directed them to be on high alert at least for the next 24 hours.  Furthermore, the Chief Minister asked the district Collectors to ensure the distribution of 25 kg of rice, one kg each of toor dal, potatoes, onions, and edible oil to the flood-hit families.  Those sheltered in relief centers should be given Rs. 2,000 per family or Rs. 1,000 per head.

Meanwhile, the continuous rainfall in the Telugu state of Andhra Pradesh has now become a matter of concern for the authority, who are trying to control the flood-like situation in the State, especially in coastal regions.
