Ms. Gummadi Kuthulamma, the former Andhra Pradesh Cabinet Minister and Deputy Speaker, passed away on the 15th of February, Wednesday.

Ms. Gummadi Kuthuhalamma, 73 years old, was suffering from age related ailments and died at his residence in the wee hours of Wednesday. 

Ms. Gummadi Kuthuhalamma, who is a doctor by profession started her political career in 1984 with the Indian National Congress (INC.)   In 1985, Ms. Gummadi Kuthuhalamma contested as an INC candidate from Vepanjeri (presently GD Nellore) constituency in 1985 and won as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the first time.  She was elected to the Assembly from the same seat in 1989, 1999 and 2004 and served as the Minister of Health and Child Welfare during the late former CM Nedurumalli Janardhan Reddy’s regime.  In 2007, Ms. Gummadi Kuthuhalamma served as the Deputy speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Legislature.  After being denied a seat by the Indian National Congress (INC) ticket, she contested as an independent candidate and lost.  Later, in 2014 she joined the Telugu Desam Party (TPD,) which was the ruling government of the bifurcated state of Andhra Pradesh.

Meanwhile, upon hearing the demise of Ms. Gummadi Kuthuhalamma, the TDP leaders and politicians from Andhra Pradesh, expressed grief and condolences.   Moreover, the last rites of Ms. Gummadi Kuthuhalamma is scheduled to be held on the 15th of February in Andhra Pradesh’s Tirupati region.
