The Election Commission (EC) of Andhra Pradesh, on the 22nd of May, arranged as many as 33 counting halls at Andhra Pradesh University in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh (AP.)

The EC officials said, in Visakhapatnam, approximately 176 candidates contested 15 Assembly seats, whereas 34 candidates contested 3 Lok Sabha seats.

The EC implemented Section 144 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC,) following which, any public rallies or processions are not allowed in Visakhapatnam during the counting of the votes.

According to sources, 1,272 police officials will be deployed to maintain smooth counting of the votes at the counting halls in Visakhapatnam.

The counting will begin from 8:00 A.M., on the 23rd of May.

Andhra Pradesh contested a total of 175 Assembly seats and 25 Lok Sabha seats, out of which, 15 and 3 were from Visakhapatnam, respectively.

Major parties such as the Telugu Desam Party (TDP,) the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) and the JanaSena Party contested the AP elections, on the 11th of April 2019.

The results of the AP Assembly and Lok Sabha elections will be announced on the 23rd of May 2019.
