Vijayawada: Cyclone Michaung created devastation across the coastal Andhra Pradesh region. The Michaung made landfall between Chirala and Bapalta as a severe cyclonic storm on Tuesday afternoon at 2.30 pm.

Winds ranging up to 90 kmph lashed Bapatla, Chirala and parts of combined Prakasam district. Hundreds of trees up rooted. Kavali, Bapatla towns were in darkness due to interruption in electricity supply.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that the cyclone will weaken gradually and pass through Guntur, NTR districts and enter Telangana state.

Chennai, Tirupati, Nellore, Kadapa, Ongole, Machilipatnam registered huge rain due to cyclone Michaung. Low lying areas at Nellore town got inundated on Tuesday morning. Eluru government hospital inundated due to continuous rains.

State government evacuated the fishermen villages on the sea coast and shifted the people to cyclone shelters. Authorities at Krishna district made intense preparations with a warning of a storm at Diviseema area.

 

State government declared holidays for schools at colleges at Krishna, NTR and Guntur districts on Wednesday following the red alert warning issued by IMD.
