Former Congress leader RPN Singh joined BJP on January 25, ahead of the UP Assembly elections 2022.

After joining BJP at the party headquarters, RPN Singh said, “Now I will work as Karyakarta, towards fulfilling PM Modi’s dream for India.” Earlier, RPN Singh resigned from Congress, saying it is not the same party when he joined 32 years back, as ideologies have changed.

On the morning of the 25th of January, Mr. R.P.N. Singh submitted his resignation to Ms. Sonia Gandhi, the Interim President of the Indian National Congress (INC.)  In his resignation he highlighted the ideologies of the Congress, which have changed in the past years and are not the same, as it was 32 years ago, when he joined the Party.  He also posted his resignation on Twitter and said, “This is a new beginning for me and I look forward to my contribution to nation building under the visionary leadership & guidance of the Honourable Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi, BJP President Shri @JPNadda ji & Honourable Home Minister @AmitShah ji.”

During the BJP joining ceremony at Lucknow Headquarters of the BJP, Mr. R.P.N. Singh said, “I have been in one party for the last 32 years, but today I must say that party is no longer what it used to be. Today, everyone knows that if there is one party that is working for the benefit of the people and is working on building the nation, it is the BJP.”

Mr Singh, a key OBC (Other Backward Class) leader from eastern UP, is the second big exit for the Congress in the state after Jitin Prasada, who is now a minister in the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government in UP.

Notably, Uttar Pradesh is set to contest for 403 Assembly seats in the upcoming elections in seven phases, starting from the 10th of February.
