Mr. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) on the 29th of December, Wednesday, felicitated Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth.

Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy gave a cash prize of Rs. 7 lakh and announced 5 acres of land for a badminton academy.  The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) allotted Tirupati land to the Indian Shuttler.  On the 19th of December, Srikanth Kidambi clinched a silver medal in Men’s Singles.  He was defeated by Loh Kean Yew, a player from Singapore. A former world no. 1, Srikanth lost 15-21, 20-22 to his opponent in 43 minutes. Despite the loss of a gold medal, India secured two medals at the Badminton World Federation (BWF.)  

The BWF Championship 2021 started from the 12th of December and concluded on the 19th of December.  The event was held in Huelva, Spain. 

On the felicitation event, Mr. K. Srikanth expressed gratitude and said that he has been assured of all support in his endeavours.  He said, with the allotted land, he would establish a badminton academy and would train players. 

The felicitation event was attended by the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Minister Mr. Muttamsetti Srinivas, the Special Chief Secretary Mr. G. Saiprasad, the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) Chairman Mr. Byreddy Siddarth Reddy, SAAP Managing Director (MD) Mr. N. Prabhakar Reddy, the SAAP Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Mr. Rama Krishna and K. Srikanth’s parents Mr. Radha Mukunda and Ms. K.V.S. Krishna was present on the occasion.
