Nara Chandrababu Naidu, the President of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP,) on the 12th of June, demanded the resignation of M.Sucharitha, the Home Minister of A.P.

Mr. Naidu alleged M. Sucharitha of the arrest of  Atchannaidu, the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of the TDP.  He said, ‘Mekathoti Sucharitha should resign owing moral responsibility for the incident.”

Chandrababu Naidu deemed the arrest as a plot of the Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy led Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP.)   He said the arrest of the TDP leader is an attack on the Backward Class (BC) in A.P.

Mr. Naidu addressed the media and said, “Just four days ahead of the Assembly budget session, hundreds of police lifted Atchannaidu without giving any arrest warrant or prior notice.”

He further said, “They kidnapped Atchannaidu. It is political vendetta Police should reveal where they are holding him. The Home Minister should resign for the manner in which the police is behaving.”

Chandrababu Naidu also questioned Gautam Sawang, the Director General of Police, regarding the arrest without warrant and claimed it as violating Human rights.   He said, “The DGP should come out with facts and announce the whereabouts of the TDP leader.”

Another TDP leader Varla Ramaia said, “What was the necessity to haul him away like that early in the morning? Was he running away? How can the government treat a former minister and sitting MLA like a terrorist or a Naxalite?”

B. Umamaheshwara Rao, another TDP leader also criticised the arrest of K. Atchannaidu and said, “The ACB says he ordered one of the directors to favour a Hyderabad-based company. But his request to allot the contract to the company was made after talks and it is on paper as he had sent the request on his letterhead. Why would he do that if it was illegal?”

Meanwhile, an investigation regarding the Employee State Insurance (ESI) scam and involvement of Atchannaidu by the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) is underway.  He would be produced in a court of Andhra Pradesh later in the day.
