The Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) of Andhra Pradesh (AP,) on the 18th of June, conducted an election for the Deputy Speaker’s post.

Tammineni Sitaram, the Speaker of the AP Legislative Assembly, started the election at 11:00 A.M., at Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh.

Based on the majority of votes, the nominee for the Deputy Speaker will win and become the Deputy Speaker of the AP Legislative Assembly.

Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of AP, nominated Kona Raghupathi for the Deputy Speaker’s post, representing the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP.)

On the 17th of June, Kona Raghupati submitted his nomination papers to Tammineni Sitaram.

It is clear, Kona Raghupathi has high chances of winning the election as the majority of the MLAs represent the YSRCP.

The YSRCP has a total of 150 MLAs in the AP Legislative Assembly, whereas the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the JanaSena Party have a total of 23 and 1 MLAs respectively in the AP Assembly.

An official announcement regarding the appointment of the Deputy Speaker of the AP Legislative Assembly is yet to be made.
