The Andhra Pradesh High Court (HC) on the 6th of April, put stay orders on the conduct of the Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) and the Zila Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) elections.

The Andhra Pradesh HC bench reviewed a petition filed by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and stayed the election notification. In the filed petition, the TDP said the 4 week election code also called Model Code of Conduct (MCC) was not imposed as per the directions of the Supreme Court. The TDP President Nara Chandrababu Naidu even decided to boycott the elections if held.

Recently, newly appointed State Election Commissioner (SEC) Neelam Sawhney, released notification to conduct the ZPTC and the MPTC elections in the State. As per the notice, the elections were scheduled to be held on the 8th of April.

During the hearing, the High Court agreed with these arguments and imposed a stay on the election notification. The Court also directed SEC Nilam Sawhney to file an affidavit on the matter by the 15th of April.

The next hearing in the matter is scheduled on the 15th of April.
