The Nellore Municipal Corporation (NMC) and other vacant municipality elections are underway in Andhra Pradesh.

On the 15th of November, Monday, the Telugu state is holding polls for the vacant seats of municipalities, city panchayats and wards in Andhra Pradesh.  The polling started at 7:00 A.M., and is scheduled to continue till 5:00 P.M.

In regard to this, the State Election Commission (SEC) made all the necessary arrangements for the smooth conduct of polls.   The elections are being held for 353 divisions, wards in 23 corporations, 12 municipalities, and city panchayats across the State.  Of the total seats, 28 seats are filled unopposed and polling is being held for the remaining 325 seats.

In addition, Polling for 12 municipalities: Kuppam, Akividu, Jaggayyapeta, Kondapalli, Dachepalli, Gurjala, Darshi, Buchireddypalem, Bethamcherla, Kamalapuram, Rajampet and Penukonda municipalities are underway. 

A total of 1,206 candidates of the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP,) the Telugu Desam Party (TDP,) the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and independent candidates are in the fray. 

A total of 8,62,066 people are eligible to exercise their right to vote in 908 polling stations.  Of the total polling stations, 349 were identified as problematic, 239 as highly problematic, and 38 as normal.  In the problematic and highly problematic regions, the security has been tightened with additional force. 

In addition, in NMC, voting would be held for 54 divisions, of which the YSRCP won 8 divisions unopposed.   A total of 206 candidates are in the fray to contest the NMC elections. Approximately 4.47 lakh voters are going to vote and decide the fate of 206 candidates. 

A total of 4,000 Election Commission staff are on duty to ensure smooth polling. 

The results of the conducted municipality elections would be announced on the 17th of November.
