The Andhra Pradesh Government conducted a review meeting to discuss the Information Technology (IT) policies and development of the IT sector in Visakhapatnam. The meeting is said to be moving forward with the effort of working towards turning Visakhapatnam City into a major IT Hub for the employment generation and youth development in the State. 

Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) chaired the meeting and asked officials to focus on generating large employment in the IT sector. In regard to this, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) is likely to provide Standard Procedure Operations (SPOs) to several IT institutions that offer high end skills to create better job prospects for the youth of the State.

While reviewing the IT policy, electronic manufacturing clusters, and digital libraries, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy insisted on measures to be taken to impart high end skills to the students for a better IT future in Visakhapatnam.

The State CM said, the City should be made a centre for quality education so that talented human resources would be available. With the advanced IT Hub, all the necessary infrastructure and skilled youth, the State Government aims to make Visakhapatnam an advanced IT City in A.P.

In order to achieve the goal, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy wanted a top level university to be set up in the IT sector in Visakhapatnam. It would become a one stop destination for all the high end and modern technology courses. He said, “International airport will add to the stature of the City of Destiny. Visakhapatnam will become a hub for the IT sector in the future. It will become an attractive destination for IT companies over a period of time.”

In addition, to ensure IT development in Visakhapatnam, the YSRCP Government announced to provide incentives every year to the companies that start operations in the State.

Highlighting the current work from home culture due to the Wuhan virus pandemic, the State CM asked the concerned officials to ensure high speed internet in rural areas of the State. He also said every village panchayat should have a digital library in two years and the State Government would work for the same.

In addition, by the end of December 2021, as many as 4,000 villages would get the internet. In regard to this, Jagan Mohan Reddy directed the officials to identify land for concept cities in Visakhapatnam, Tirupati and Anantapur and draft plans for the same.

The review meeting, held on the 23rd of June was attended by the Industries and Information Technology Minister Mekapati Goutham Reddy, the Panchayat Raj Principal Secretary Gopala Krishna Dwivedi, the Information Technology Principal Secretary G. Jaya Lakshmi, the Energy Secretary Nagulapalli Srikanth, the Panchayat Raj Commissioner Girija Shankar and other officials.
