Mr. Chinta Shyam Kumar, a school teacher by profession and a magician by profession, is using a unique mythological superstitious technique to debunk superstitions.

Popularly known as ‘Shyam Jadugar,’ Mr. Chinta Shyam Kumar believes that school is where real magic happens.  However, this government teacher is disappointed with the fact that many students are not going to school in Vadapalli village due to some superstitious story.  His unique magic world towards the Vadapalli village started in 2002

It is to be noted, in 2002, a resident of Vadapalli Dommeti Chandrakala lost her husband due to HIV AIDS. When the news of the cause of Chandrakala’s husband’s death broke, everyone ostracised the woman and prevented her child from attending school.  However, through magic shows, Mr. Shyam explained how AIDS spread and interacted with many parents and children.  When they understood the science and logic behind the deadly disease, Chandrakala’s kids again started going to school and receiving an education.

At that time, Shyam Jadugar reakised how superstition amongst village people is a major cause behind the high rate of dropouts in school. In over two decade (twenty years,) Mr. Chinta Shyam Kumar performed over 6,000 magic tricks and created awareness in regard to many superstitious things, and explained scientific and logical stories.

Currently, Mr. Chinta Shyam Kumar is working for the educational development of students through ‘Maya e Badi’ initiative.  Under this initiative, the Andhra Pradesh teacher is conducting free online and offline training classes in various arts in accordance with the government’s new education policy.

Mr. Shyam said, “I am trying to create awareness through my performances to inculcate scientific or logical thinking in the present generation.  Gulping down the fire and swallowing knives are tricks that are possible only because of science.”

Meanwhile, recognising his services, in 2004 and 2005, the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) honoured him with the National Level Best Teacher Award.  He also bagged Ugadi Award in 2018 and the Best Teacher Award in 2020, and has received several awards from international organisations such as the Malaysia Telugu Association and the Magician Society of Kuwait.
