The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unit in Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) demanded to rename Jinnah Tower.

On the 30th of December, the BJP leaders in Andhra Pradesh, asked the State Government to rename Jinnah tower to APJ Abdul Kalam tower in Guntur.  According to sources, Mr. Raja Singh, the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) said that if the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government would not rename the tower, the BJP cadres would demolish the tower.

Raising voice in support of MLA Raja Singh, Mr. Vishnuvardhan Reddy, a BJP leader, also demanded the same.  The reason behind the sudden demand is said to be hatred against Jinnah, who the BJP leaders alleged to be the reason behind India-Pakistan bifurcation.  The comments and demands of the BJP leaders drew a lot of criticism by Indian Muslim League, who said, Jinnah fought hard for the freedom of India.  They further said these demands are just a way to get attention of the people of Andhra Pradesh.

This is not the first time the BJP demanded to change the original Mughal names to Hindu.  Recently, Aurangzeb road was named as Abdul Kalam road.  In Uttar Pradesh also, several places were named as per Hindu names like Allahabad to Prayagraj.

Meanwhile, the YSRCP Government is yet to respond to the demands of the BJP.
