The Andhra Pradesh Police department is ok high alert in the wake of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19.

The Director General of Police (DGP) Gautam Sawang on the 23rd of December, said they were taking precautionary measures in Andhra Pradesh.

Addressing the media, Mr. Sawang advised people to be careful and follow all the guidelines of the Novel Coronavirus.  He asked people to be more vigilant in the wake of the second wave. He said the precautionary review was conducted with the medical department officials and the collectors and Superintendents of Police (SPs) were being consulted.

The State Police also likely to take precautions during New Year celebrations.

In regard to this, the CCTV cameras have been set up at police stations as well as lockups. He said the decision was taken after consultation with the State Government.

DGP Gautam Sawang advised the people to take more precautions as it is winter.

Gautam Sawang also briefed the media on various issues faced by the Police Department in terms of curbing the spread of the virus.

He said that the police department had faced many challenges in 2020 and lauded police who worked tirelessly to protect public health in the coronavirus times. A

On Wednesday he held a police department annual report media conference. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the Andhra Pradesh government had responded quickly to the covid containment. He said that we have successfully faced the corona under the guidance of Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. As many as 14,000 AP policemen were affected with dreadful virus of which 109 were killed.
