Tension prevailed at Prakasam district after a few Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders were taken into police custody.

Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu, the National President of the TDP, called for a statewide bandh today, the 20th of October, in Andhra Pradesh (A.P.)  The bandh was called to raise voice against the recently held violence acts and attacks on TDP offices in the State.  Responding to the called for bandh, TDP leaders and activists started stopping Road Transport Corporation (RTC) buses, closing hotels, restaurants and educational institutions. 

To control the situation and TDP leaders, the Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy Government deployed police force across A.P. The Andhra Pradesh police took action and prevented the leaders from protesting. Many TDP leaders and activists were taken into preventive custody, and a few were kept under house detention. Police shifted the protestors to police stations in some places. The prevention and house arrest started from the night of the 19th of October, and continued till the early hours of the 20th of October, Wednesday. Later, on Wednesday morning, the Ongole police confined the TDP leader Dr. Nukasani Balaji to house arrest. They even arrested leaders like Mr. Tipparamalli Raviteja, Mr. Mamilla Pavan, Mr. Vejawada Murali Krishna and others to the Taluka police station.

Mr. U. Nagarju, the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Ongole along with his sub-divisional staff arrested the TDP leaders and shifted them to the police station. In addition, the Parchur police also kept the Ongole Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) Mr. Bapatla and Mr. Yeluri Sambasiva Rao, the Parliament Constituency TDP President under house arrest.

However, the continuous arrest left no impact on the TDP and they said, even though their leaders and party activists are under house arrest and in police custody, they would conduct the bandh.

As of now, Police arranged tight security at the Chief Minister’s camp office at Tadepalli near Vijayawada, Mr. Chandrababu Naidu’s residence, houses of Ministers, MP, MLAs and MLCs, YSR Congress and TDP offices and other sensitive locations.
